Is World of Warcraft: Forever worth playing? WoW: Forever is the newest version of the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft. Blizzard Entertainment wrapped up the month-long successful beta test last Friday, October 23rd. The official launch is November 4, 2026. The hype is off the chain. Check out this article to understand the difference between modern World of Warcraft, World of Warcraft: Classic, and World of Warcraft: Forever.
If you missed out on the WoW: Forever beta and stress test, you may be wondering what all the hype is about. For the first time in WoW’s history, we have a World of Warcraft game that bridges the gap between Classic and retail. It’s smack dab in the middle, and everyone is excited. All you need is an active WoW subscription to play when it launches. Let’s discuss my impressions of WoW: Forever and whether you should try it once it launches on November 4th.

The WoW: Forever Difference

Where to begin? WoW: Forever wrapped up its beta test last Friday. Blizzard developers had fun with the fans by summoning bosses for players to fight in the starter zones. Nothing was more hilarious and satisfying than watching level 6 players running around in legendary and epic gear.
The beta test began on September 17th and ran for five weeks. During the beta, players could only reach level 30. The official launch will increase the level cap to 60.
Water in Forever looks real. Sunsets are beautiful. Weather effects are impressive. Graphics don’t make a game great, but Azeroth has never looked better. Character models have been updated. Players can choose to play Forever in standard definition for a classic feel, or high definition for a modern experience. The WoW: Forever team has been responsive and passionate on social media. The dev team is determined to make a game everyone can be proud of, and as a long-time WoW player, I appreciate the effort. Respecting players’ time is crucial.
Forever is a slower and more relaxed experience than modern WoW. There’s no rush to end game. Exploring Azeroth as you level is the main focus. Other players lend a hand when you need it and cast buffs on each other as they run by. In WoW: Forever, you never feel alone. Another adventurer is just a few steps away. The new campfire idea where players can gather and rest is genius. You won’t become friends with everyone you meet, but you’ll still share a special moment you’ll never forget.

The WoW: Forever Difference Continued

The beta was fun and immersive, and the player community felt alive. WoW: Forever won’t be for everyone. If you prefer fast-paced gameplay and hardcore raiding, modern WoW is for you. On the other hand, if you prefer slower gameplay and progression and don’t like modern quality-of-life improvements, WoW Classic is for you. Modern World of Warcraft is unrecognizable from vanilla WoW. Forever is trying to bridge the gap between modern and classic.
Blizzard Entertainment is trying to show the fans that they’re listening. I’m cautiously optimistic about Forever’s future. Controversy over the new race of elves and the dungeon experience nerf has raised red flags. But Blizzard is listening to player demands and has even decided to include a role-play player-versus-player (RP-PVP) ruleset. Blizzard developers have been surprisingly responsive and passionate with fans.
Fans have been divided over class tweaks. Players worry about raids dropping in December, just a month after launch. Some worry this will pressure players to hit the level cap as soon as possible instead of enjoying the leveling experience. Personally, I’m going to take my time leveling, and I’m not concerned about when the raids are released, but fans’ concerns are valid, and hopefully Blizzard will hear them.
Should You Try WoW: Forever?

World of Warcraft: Forever isn’t perfect, but it feels like an answer to everyone’s prayers. Modern WoW is in a tricky spot. The World Soul Saga hasn’t been resonating with players.
Unpopular writing decisions over the past ten years have soured the fandom’s relationship with the game. WoW: Forever rewinds the story back to the very beginning of vanilla WoW. This means Blizzard can tell new stories in Azeroth without erasing the progress modern WoW has made.
Forever will never open the Dark Portal. If Forever takes us to Northrend, our quest to face the Lich King could look different. A new timeline gives Blizzard a chance to right the wrongs of modern WoW’s story. World of Warcraft competitor Final Fantasy XIV is known for its gripping, emotional storytelling.
At first, the World Soul Saga sounded like it would rival FFXIV in scale, but it has fallen short of expectations. Modern WoW characters are a shell of their former selves. I miss when characters were iconic and badass. I hope Forever gives WoW characters a chance to shine again.

Should You Try WoW: Forever Continued

I don’t want every character to die. Sometimes it feels like modern WoW is obsessed with killing characters. But I also don’t want characters to stay in a slump. Anduin seems to be on an emotional journey all the time, but as an Alliance player, I wish he would return as High King of the Alliance.
I remember being excited for Anduin’s journey after his father, King Varian Wrynn, died in Legion. But his storyline has disappointed me at every turn, and I know I’m not the only fan who feels that way. Plus, he is only one of many characters who’ve had disappointing storylines.
Players have also complained that storylines aren’t equal between the factions. Sometimes it feels like Horde characters turn evil or die. But Alliance characters are retired or forgotten. I want a reason to play both factions. Give me epic heroes and villains on both sides. Give each faction a reason to look cool. It would also be nice to have epic romances. I loved Tyrande and Malfurion in Warcraft III, and Thrall and Aggra in Cataclysm.
Forever can make things right, or at least different. Sometimes it helps to view a situation from a different perspective. But modern WoW isn’t failing only because of its story. Quality-of-life improvements, from the dungeon finder to flying mounts, have caused the community to vanish.
As a casual player, I do appreciate the quality-of-life improvements when I play solo, but every time I play modern WoW, I always feel so alone. No one talks. I’ve never seen anyone offer another player a helping hand. Modern WoW is great for casuals who only want to play solo and for hardcore raiders. WoW: Forever bridges the gap for hardcore raiders and casual players.
Is World of Warcraft: Forever Worth Playing?

WoW: Forever is worth playing. WoW needs a fresh start, and Forever has a chance to do something amazing. My major complaint is the layering. Sometimes I felt alone because the game world refreshed and players suddenly disappeared. I also had a couple of close calls with mobs when the game world refreshed, and they suddenly respawned on top of me.
I hope Blizzard can fix the layering problem. But overall, I enjoyed the beta and didn’t want to put the game down. I had to remind myself that I couldn’t keep my beta character.
Even if you prefer modern WoW or WoW: Classic, trying Forever is easy. As long as you have an active subscription, you can play Forever. So there’s nothing to lose by trying it.
