Is World Of Warcraft: Forever New Player Friendly?
What To Decide First
Rule Sets

First, if you’re playing with friends, ask them which rule set and faction they’ll play on. If you’re playing alone, decide which rule set you’d enjoy. WoW Forever uses a mega server. Players are divided into four rule sets: Player vs. Environment (PvE), Player vs. Player (PvP), Role-Play (RP), and Hardcore. As a new player, you may want to start with PvE.
The PvE rule set allows you to play with other players, but you’ll only engage in PvP combat if you choose to. This rule set makes questing easier because you don’t have to worry about another player from the opposing faction ganking (attacking) you. You can check out a helpful WoW lingo guide here.
The PvP rule set is great if you want to engage in more combat with other players. Back in the day, large-scale battles between the Horde and the Alliance took place in Hillsbrad Foothills. Because WoW Forever is closer to WoW Classic than modern WoW, you can join world PvP. Be warned, some players will grief you by killing you or the quest giver. So if you don’t have friends to help you, questing on a PvP server might not be worth it, but you have to decide for yourself.

Rule Sets Continued

Role-playing (RP) is a lot of fun. If you want to pretend you’re a real Human knight in the Alliance or an Orc shaman in the Horde, consider playing the RP rule set. An RP rule set will attract players who take the game more seriously. So you want to put more thought into your character’s name. Roleplayers will form guilds to stage roleplaying events. Now, the Warcraft story is vast. You don’t need to know everything about the lore to roleplay, but you should at least understand your character’s race and class.
The Hardcore rule set isn’t for the faint of heart. Death is permanent on this rule set. If you die, the only way to resurrect is to choose another rule set. Hardcore is probably not a good idea for a new WoW player. But you’re not stuck on any rule set you don’t like. Remember, you can always make another character on a different rule set. So don’t be afraid to get out there in Azeroth and have fun.
I choose to play on the PvE rule set. I play primarily for the story and to relax. WoW Forever is a new beginning for World of Warcraft. We’re in uncharted territory because the new storylines can go in all kinds of crazy directions. So new and old players alike will experience WoW Forever with fresh eyes.
Faction, Race, And Class Options

After you choose the rule set, pick a side. Every version of World of Warcraft features two factions. They’re called the Horde and the Alliance. Neither faction is evil or good, but they’re sworn enemies because of past transgressions and misunderstandings. If you’re going to play with your friends, ask them which faction they are aligned with.
The Alliance races are humans, dwarves, night elves, gnomes, and high order skyborne. Each faction has its own starter zone. Dwarves and gnomes share a starter zone in Dun Morogh. Alliance races strongly believe in the light. They believe they must fight to protect their homelands from the Horde, which the Alliance considers foreign invaders. Fighting for the Alliance is a noble and righteous cause. For the Alliance!
Now, the Horde races are orcs, trolls, tauren, undead, and windshaper skyborne. Like the Alliance, each Horde race has its own starting zone. In this case, orcs and trolls share a starter zone in Durotar. The Horde is a mix of races bonded by shared circumstances. They are a proud faction that values honor and protects its own. Fighting for the Horde is an honorable choice; many WoW players favor it because it’s interesting. For the Horde!
Each race has its own racial abilities. For example, dwarves can find treasure, and skyborne have a glide ability. Some racial abilities can give you an edge in battlegrounds. If you’re interested in PvP, look up racial abilities before choosing a character.
Faction, Race, And Class Options Continued

After you choose your faction and race, pick a class. In World of Warcraft, a class is how you fight. So you can be a human priest who specializes in healing, or an undead warlock, which is good for damage per second (DPS) in groups. In dungeons and raids, you can choose to tank, heal, or DPS. A tank is the group’s meat shield, protecting the party from bosses. Classes like Warrior and Paladin can tank.
If you’d rather heal your party, classes like Priest or Shaman might be more interesting. But if you’re only interested in doing damage, then consider playing a hunter or mage. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses. Some classes, like hunters, are great for questing. Hunters have a pet that can tank for you and protect you from mobs. Classes like rogues can use stealth, which can make it easier to attack other players in PvP. Don’t be afraid to try different race and class combinations until you find what works best for you.
If you’re interested in learning about each class’s storyline, check out the WoW Wiki. You can spend hours there learning Azeroth’s lore. Remember, WoW Forever is a fresh start. So only focus on story from the vanilla WoW era and earlier. Don’t worry about the Burning Crusade or other expansions. If you ever decide to play modern WoW (retail), you can check out the other expansions and the Warcraft novels. You may also want to check out the Warcraft RTS games. Also, Warcraft III has a new campaign called Forsaken Kingdom that ties directly into WoW Forever.

Professions

You’re doing great now that you’ve chosen a class. Once you start playing your character, you can choose a profession. Professions let you make gold by selling your wares in the Auction House. Professions are divided into two parts: gathering and crafting. Gathering professions include herbalism, mining, skinning, and fishing. Crafting professions include alchemy, blacksmithing, leatherworking, tailoring, enchanting, engineering, first aid, and cooking.
Every character can learn fishing, first aid, and cooking. But you can only have one main gathering profession and one main crafting profession. You can also use your profession to contribute to another player’s campfire. Sitting at a campfire gives you an experience-level bonus for an hour. Contributing to the campfire boosts you and fellow players in different stats. So be sure to take a rest with your fellow adventurers.
