WoW: Forever Launch Fast Approaches. The newest version of the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft launches at 3:00 p.m. (PST) on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. But MMO fans have two games to look forward to, because Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold Collector’s Edition goes on sale on November 4th as well.
Pre-orders via consoles, Steam, and the Square Enix Store, which includes the Evercold Collector’s Box, begin at 10:00 a.m. (PST). If you’re pre-ordering digitally through the Mog Station, it begins at 1:00 a.m. (PST). November 4th is shaping up to be a busy day for MMORPG fans.

WoW: Forever vs. FFXIV
MMORPG fans are eating good this week. Final Fantasy XIV wrapped up its fan fest over the weekend and gave fans plenty of exciting information to sink their teeth into.
The second new job, Zephyr, was introduced, and the names of two new characters, Baldr and Lagertha, were revealed. The collector’s edition will feature the Warrior of Light as a reaper, and it looks epic.
Unfortunately, FFXIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) announced that Evercold is being delayed from its original January release to Tuesday, February 23, 2027. Early access is Friday, February 19th. He reassured fans that the delay is necessary to release a high-quality product. Hopefully, fans don’t mind, as shipping a quality product should be Square Enix’s utmost priority.
Evercold is going to bring FFXIV to new heights. Yoshi-P said evolution is a driving theme in the expansion. And fans can see that in the new Evolved mode combat system for jobs. He also said the storyline will move faster than Dawntrail’s, which suffered from pacing issues and focused heavily on the new zones. Yoshi-P said that side quests will give fans more storyline about the zones, while the main scenario quest (MSQ) will focus on the main plotline.

WoW: Forever vs. FFXIV
WoW: Forever is the shiny new toy on the block. Everyone is talking about it. All you need is an active World of Warcraft subscription to play. If you have friends who pre-ordered the new Skyborne race, they should’ve received game codes. You can use those codes for a free week of game time to try out Forever.
It doesn’t matter whether you prefer classic WoW or modern WoW, because Forever bridges the gap between the two. You might try Forever and find the slower gameplay isn’t for you, or you might not jive with the updated quality-of-life enhancements. But since you only need a WoW subscription to play, it doesn’t hurt to dip your toes into the new game.
New players should consider trying out Forever too. Because Forever is a new alternate timeline for World of Warcraft that begins in the vanilla WoW era, you don’t have to catch up on a massive amount of story. And because everyone is starting from the beginning at level one, there’s no pressure to catch up. In fact, WoW: Forever focuses on the journey to level cap, not level cap itself. So pull up a chair, grab a pint, and prepare to venture into the World of Warcraft. Azeroth is calling.
WoW: Forever vs. FFXIV Continued
With both FFXIV and WoW: Forever vying for your attention on November 4th, what are MMORPG fans to do? Well, you’ll probably get stuck waiting in a login queue for Forever. But FFXIV will be starting pre-orders hours before Forever launches. So no worries. You can snag your Evercold collector’s edition before trying to log into WoW.
It’s also a good thing that Evercold isn’t dropping this week. Fans of both games would have to decide which one gets most of their attention. And both games deserve your time and attention. It’s debatable which game is better. Over the years, modern WoW has gone down in quality, while FFXIV has continued to expand its popular story. FFXIV has over 35 million registered users, a feat Square Enix announced at the fan fest.
When FFXIV had to restart after Legacy’s failure, Yoshi-P looked towards WoW for inspiration. Back then, WoW was still king of MMORPGs, and it made sense. That’s why FFXIV and WoW share a similar interface and job design. But over time, FFXIV has really found its own voice. It no longer follows in WoW’s shadow, and FFXIV has become WoW’s largest competitor. Healthy competition keeps both Blizzard Entertainment and Square Enix on their toes, and gamers eat good when gaming companies are challenged to make better games.

WoW: Forever: What’s Next?
If you haven’t decided on which class to play, don’t worry because you still have time. November 4th isn’t here yet, so ask your friends which rule set they’ll be playing on.
WoW: Forever uses a mega server, so you will need to choose a rule set: Normal (PvE), Player vs. Player (PvP), Roleplay (RP), Roleplay PvP (RP-PvP), or Hardcore. Make sure you choose the right rule set, because the choice is permanent. You don’t want to level up a character only to discover you and your friends can’t play together to do group content.
The only exception is the Hardcore rule set. Death is permanent. The only way to resurrect your character is to choose another rule set. So before choosing Hardcore, be sure that’s what you really want to play. The PvP rule sets are also difficult.
If you’re just beginning your journey in Azeroth, going PvP might not be the best move. You don’t want to have players from the opposing faction killing you while you’re questing. When you’re ganked (attacked) by a higher-level player, it can be incredibly frustrating, especially if they camp your corpse and continue to kill you every time you resurrect. Mean players are the last thing you want to worry about when playing any version of WoW for the first time.
