World of Warcraft Shadowlands Customization Options rock. When Blizzard Entertainment announced the new options the excitement rippled through the fandom. As a person of color, I was excited and skeptical about the changes. There’s so much that can go wrong with stuff like this, especially because the WoW fandom has toxic members within the community. Trade chat is an obvious cesspool of drama filled with racist, sexist and homophobic remarks.

Despite the toxicity within the WoW community, the new Shadowlands customization options have been well received. I’ve been playing my new hunter for a few days. So far no one has said anything racist to me, but I also haven’t participated in group content. Mostly I’ve been questing and enjoying the new leveling experience. Racism is something I’m no stranger to, especially within WoW. I’ve played WoW for twelve years.

Well, the recent election results in the US have demonstrated that society is tired of racism. We’re finally becoming a little more accepting. Let’s discuss the Shadowlands customization options and how they reflect the world today.

My Experiences With Racism In WoW

Racism is a sickness which prevails throughout society. So it’s not only an issue within the WoW community. During my time as a WoW player, I’ve spent countless days in tears due to racism that I experienced.

Normally, I don’t announce my race while playing the game. Usually what occurs is someone in trade chat or a member of a dungeon/LFR group begins ranting about African Americans. It’s like they assume none of us play the game. Honestly, they probably don’t care if they hurt our feelings. Their racist rant is enough for me to know that I’m viewed as less than human.

My enjoyment of World of Warcraft isn’t tied to other players’ behavior. Certainly, they can make the experience tiring. Yet, I’ve played WoW for so many years because I enjoy the story. The world of Azeroth is beautiful and fascinating. I’m intrigued by the games heroes, and disgusted by its villains. So I’m in it for the long haul.

My Experiences With Racism In WoW Continued

The Shadowlands customization options are great. Hopefully, I don’t experience any problems. Let me share one of my experiences within the game.

Many years ago I was playing with a friend of mine. He was African American like me. Well, we queued in the dungeon finder. We had a fantastic time running old school dungeons. I vividly remember us being in Scarlet Monastery when we ran into trouble.

Our tank was having a rough day. He began spewing hatred about African Americans during the dungeon run. The group had died a few times, but none of us had declared our race. My friend got angry. He and the tank argued back and forth. The tank kept using the N-word and other derogative languages. Eventually, my friend angrily left the group.

I was sad. Honestly, I’d been having a great time until we ran into the racist tank. No other person in the group spoke against the tank’s rant. So either they agreed with his hateful rhetoric, or they didn’t want to get involved.

Despite how awesome the Shadowlands customization options are real-life is complicated. Players complain on the WoW forums, Reddit, trade chat, and other social media channels. One of the main arguments against the customization options is that WoW is a fantasy game. Those players complained that they play WoW to “Get away from all that crap”.

In their opinion, the game shouldn’t reflect real life because they’d rather WoW remain an escape. Some have even insulted people of color by stating if your self-worth is determined by how your online avatar looks then they pity you.

The irony in these statements astounds me. World of Warcraft is definitely an escape, but it’s not only a gateway for the privileged few. My main in WoW has always been a burly dwarf. I chose to play a dwarven hunter because of how epic the Vanilla WoW cinematic was. People of color are used to playing video games with characters who don’t resemble us. We don’t get our self-worth from a video game. Being able to play as a hero who resembles me is a bonus though.

Self-inserting yourself into the story is part of the fun. MMORPG’s are interesting because the game makes you the hero. Many MMO players have praised Final Fantasy XIV for how it makes you the center of the story. Final Fantasy has also been praised for its customization options. Playing a character with your skin tone is fun. It’s not a necessity for enjoying a video game, but it’s still awesome.

Outside of the World of Warcraft Shadowlands customization options, I’ve experienced racism my whole life. There are two instances that stand out. When I was about four or five years old the police broke into my home. This happened several times, but I only remember this one incident because I was little.

The cops were searching for a suspect. Well, it was in the middle of the night. So my mom and I were in the bed. The cops busted open our bedroom door. Their guns were drawn and they blared their flashlights in our faces. Thank god they didn’t shoot us.

Another experience with racism I’d like to share occurred a couple of years ago. I visited the Urgent Care near my home. My thigh had swollen. On my thigh was a huge circular bug bite. I’d been experiencing tremendous pain and I was delirious. The doctor was an older white man. As soon as he saw me his face dropped. I explained what was wrong and showed him my bug bite. The doctor refused to help me. He wouldn’t give me any pain medication or antibiotics. He turned me away. I had to visit another Urgent Care. The doctor there was a young Asian American and she was kind. She prescribed me antibiotics and pain medication and sent me on my way.

I’ve experienced racism on many occasions when visiting a doctor. Many believe the stereotypes that African Americans don’t experience pain. I assure you that we do feel pain. Some doctors have also assumed I was only seeking drugs. I assure you that I don’t do drugs, I’ve never smoked, and I don’t drink. Stereotypes can literally cost people of color their lives.

The final racist experience I’d like to share occurred on vacation. My family had been wanting to visit Walt Disney World for about 20 years. The problem was the expense.

We finally made it to Walt Disney World a few years ago. The majority of the trip was magical except for a few snags. We managed to secure a reservation to Cinderella’s Royal Table. Eating inside of Cinderella Castle is one of the most coveted dining reservations on property.

Well, during our meal the wonderful cast members gave me, my mom, and my grandmother magic wands. My brothers were given toy swords. As we exited Magic Kingdom park, a Disney security guard snapped at my brothers. He was a caucasian guard and thought they were leaving the park with weapons. We explained that we’d gotten the swords at Cinderella’s Royal Table. He eventually let us go, but the guard looked embarrassed. I’m thankful he didn’t make a bigger scene and call the cops.

We were also followed around the gift shop inside of our hotel. I guess because we were staying in a deluxe hotel they must have assumed we were lost. None of the white people in the gift shops were rushed out like we were. Being followed around stores and shops is something I’m used to. I’ve dealt with it my whole life. It’s exhausting when trying to shop, but it’s a sad reality for people who look like me.

What The New Changes Mean To Me

The new Shadowlands customization options won’t end racism. These new options allow everyone to escape from reality instead of a privileged few. I’m finally able to play a hero who represents me.

I felt a rush of excitement as I ran through Exile’s Reach. Now I’m questing in Pandaria and I’ve never been happier. My new hunter even has dreadlocks. They’re slightly different than the individual braids I enjoy wearing, but they’re close enough.

What The New Changes Mean To Me

My main complaint is the voice acting. Officer Garrick in Exile’s Reach changes her appearance based on your character. Well, at least I’m assuming she does because in the beta she looked white.

Well, when I created my new hunter Officer Garrick was now black. The problem is that her voice actress sounded too white. Sometimes it took me out of the moment because the voice didn’t match the face.

World of Warcraft has taken a step in the right direction. Fantasy should represent everyone. The fantasy genre in general is slowly becoming more diverse. I’m ecstatic to see this shift. People of color exist. We should be able to see ourselves as heroes too.

An Extended Break

Hello Warcraftlover readers,

As we’re all aware, 2020 has been a rough year. Between COVID-19 outbreaks, economic downturns, and civil rights protests this year has been crazy.

In my personal life, I’ve been in treatment for depression and anxiety. Some days I’ve been so sick I couldn’t get out of bed. Antidepressant medications caused severe allergic reactions. Even now, I type this message with severe swelling in my hands. It’s painful, but my love for writing and the World of Warcraft community keep my strength.

My support network has always been small, and at times it’s been non-existent. Friends who I thought were my friends abandoned me in my time of need. The family has ignored and even worsened my problem by misunderstanding the situation. Through it all, one person has remained a constant beacon of hope. My godmother.

An Extended Break Continued

If you’ve read the about me page you’ll know how much my godmother means to me. She’s the reason why I play video games. I wouldn’t have discovered my love for books or writing either if it wasn’t for her.

She introduced me to World of Warcraft, and thanks to her I created memories in the game which will last me a lifetime. When she moved from California to Oklahoma 15 years ago I was sad, but nothing can compare to the indescribable pain I feel now.

My godmother passed away today. At the moment I’m numb, and my brain hasn’t processed the information. All I know is that I may need to take a break. So my blog posts may become more sporadic over the next month. To say this year has been tough for everyone is an understatement.

My heart is heavy, and I wish life had gone differently. I wish I’d gotten to visit her in Oklahoma. We played World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, and Animal Crossing together. I’ll always cherish those memories. She meant the world to me, especially when the world hadn’t been kind to me.

World Of Warcraft Movie Rumors

World of Warcraft movie rumors has been swirling around lately. We got this covered first broke the rumor a week ago. The website reports on entertainment news and gossip. Usually, they claim an “inside source” is giving them exclusive entertainment news. It’s a good idea to take any rumor they post with a grain of salt.

The first Warcraft movie was a box office failure. Many fans were unhappy with the story and accuracy. Box office sales were bad in the United States and the movie only made $47.7 million, but the film did great overseas in China and made $439 million. The film’s budget was $160 million which means it barely recuperated the cost of production and advertising.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the Warcraft movie received a 28 percent score from critics. Fans were more forgiving of the movie’s shortcomings and it earned a 76 percent score from the audience.

Warcraft is an epic franchise. The movie failed to capture the complex gravity of the story in an easy to comprehend format. Too many characters were eating up the screen time, and it made it difficult for non-warcraft fans to understand the world. A second Warcraft movie could give Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary a chance to tell the story right.

The rumors didn’t appear to have any weight until Chris Metzen tweeted about them yesterday. What we’ve heard so far is that Legendary is making a second Warcraft movie. Chris Pratt is being considered for the main human role. Lord of the Rings movie director Peter Jackson is said to be directing the new film. Also, the movie will have a fresh start and won’t follow the storyline of the first Warcraft movie.

A complete reboot of the story could help catapult the franchise. Maybe Blizzard Entertainment should consider making a Netflix show instead? Warcraft might work as a Netflix show created in the high-quality cinematics Blizzard uses within the game. Maybe a TV show would give Blizzard an opportunity to tell more stories, and to allow those stories to breathe.

What We Know Continued

An example of a successful video game show on Netflix is The Witcher which is based on the novels. The Witcher was one of Netflix’s top 10 shows in 2019 and was second only to Stranger Things, and The Witcher is being called the Game of Thrones of Netflix. Regardless of personal preference, Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary may still create another movie anyway.

A movie franchise does have appeal. The most successful film franchises in history have brought in millions of dollars. Great examples include the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) which raked in $22.5 billion and the Harry Potter franchise which brought in about $1.002 billion. In terms of successful video game movie, Detective Pikachu was a success last year and brought in $433 million worldwide.

Shadows Rising Review

My Shadows Rising review is finally here. There were a few bumps in the road. Initially, I’d planned to have my review posted the week before Shadows Rising was released. Technical difficulties and postal delivery delays contributed to me not receiving the novel until August. Additionally, I’ve been dealing with personal health issues. Also, I promised to write a Shadows Rising review and I wanted to keep my word. It’s better late than never, right?

A Quick Summary

Shadows Rising by Madeleine Roux is the prequel novel to the Shadowlands expansion. The book takes place right after the events of Battle for Azeroth and leads right into the moment where Banshee Queen Sylvanas Windrunner destroyed the Helm of Domination.

During the story, the focus shifts from hero to hero. Each chapter is divided into zones from Azeroth. The main conflict involves a group of assassins called Widow’s Bite as they attempt to kill Queen Talanji and take over the Zandalari empire.

Ultimately, the Widows Bite’s goal is to destroy Bwonsamdi, the loa of death. Queen Talanji was in Orgrimmar when an assassin slipped poison in her drink. Zekhan (Zappy Boi) knocked the drink out of her hand saving her life.

Throughout the story, we follow both the Horde and the Alliance as they try to find Sylvanas. But, Sylvanas loyalists, Nathanos Blightcaller and Sira Moonwarden are working with Widows Bite to kill Bwonsamdi.

The loa of death has been stopping trolls who die from ending up in the Maw. But, clearly, the loa is a threat to whatever Sylvanas has planned, and their goal is to destroy him at all costs.

Shadows Rising gives us an exclusive glimpse into the hero’s lives. We see King Anduin as he struggles with the weight of his crown and the guilt of Teldrassil. Then there’s Thrall, a tired but strong Orc, who’s left his family behind in order to preserve and protect the Horde he created.

We’re also allowed to see more of Queen Talanji’s grief from losing her father, and how the pressures of being a new queen are taking its toll.

Examining Character Development And Plot

A story as epic as Warcraft is going to be difficult to tell in a 300-page novel. But, Roux rises to the challenge expertly. We begin our journey with a prologue.

King Anduin Wrynn is horseback riding with Master Mathias Shaw in Westfall. During this important prologue, we’re reminded of the Armistice the Horde and Alliance have signed.

Anduin is also dealing with his own regrets regarding the Burning of Teldrassil. The young king feels he should’ve done more to help High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind and the Night Elves.

Being the leader of the Alliance is taking a toll on the boy king. Anduin is mostly concerned with finding Sylvanas. He wants to make her suffer for her crimes, and he wants to atone for his own mistakes.

Once the prologue ends, we’re thrust right into a Horde council meeting. The meeting is being experienced through Thrall’s eyes. In a way, it’s almost like another part of the prologue because we’re being introduced to the key conflicts. The new Horde council is finding it difficult to see eye to eye on important issues.

Examining Character Development And Plot Continued

Not everyone on the Horde council agrees with the Armistice. The biggest dissenter is Queen Talanji who’s seeking revenge on Lord Admiral Jaina Proudmoore for invading Zuldazar. Talanji’s father was killed in the ensuing battle, and Talanji was still licking her wounds.

Talanji is as angry with the Horde’s decision to sign an Armistice as Tyrande is with the Alliance. Both women are impressive and strong leaders of their people, and both are feeling the righteous fury of not doing enough to protect their own.

Despite the novel beginning with King Anduin, the story spends more time on Horde matters. As an Alliance player, I will admit the beginning portion of the novel did drag for me. But, once the hunt for Sylvanas kicked into gear on both factions then the story began to increase my interest.

Character-wise, Queen Talanji has the most development. She’s still learning how to put aside her pride. Being a great monarch involves placing the needs of her subjects before her own.

After the assassination attempt on her life, Talanji exits the Horde council and returns to Zuldazar. The Horde sends Zekhan to be their ambassador because he’s the one who saved her life.

Despite the Horde’s repeated attempts at offering aid throughout the novel, Talanji refuses to accept their help. Her kingdom is falling apart due to rumors spread by her enemies, an assassin attempts to take her life in the very room where she lost her father.

Bwonsamdi warns her that his power is weakening due to the efforts of her enemies. She eventually realizes that allying with the Horde is best for her people, and despite her disagreements with the armistice, she agrees to rejoin the council.

An Examination Of Writing And World Building

Roux divides the story by zone. Basically, you could tell the story was shifting to Horde or Alliance based on what zone was on the chapter.

The writing flowed nicely, but there are long sentences. Shadows Rising is easy to read and understand. The tone of the novel is dark but is punctuated by light-hearted moments.

Shadows Rising is written in a descriptive style. A great example of this is when Thrall was thinking of his children playing to illustrate how he misses his home.

Thrall found himself longing for the cool, shaded pools dotting the land on his farm in Nagrand. He could almost hear the laughter of his children splashing in the water…

Also, another example is when Anduin is imagining a coin purse becoming too heavy. The coin purse demonstrated the amount of responsibility heaped on the young king’s shoulders.

Both examples were great visuals that Roux used to emphasize how the characters were feeling at that moment.

Sometimes he (Anduin) felt like a coin satchel, and every worry….was another fat, heavy coin falling into that bag… when the coin spilled, Anduin found himself before the great carved fireplace in his bedroom on the floor, legs tucked up to his chest, catatonic, eyes unable to close, mind unable to clear, the flames just inches before him searing into his vision until tears poured down his cheeks.

World-building is okay. The book is clearly written for Warcraft fans. So newcomers to the series may not be as familiar with the zones. Each chapter only gives a brief description of a zone and launches into action. So if you’re not a WoW fan you may not be aware that certain zones are related to certain factions. The same rules applied to character backstories. Obviously, the novel is assuming you understand each character and their history.

Overall: My Thoughts And Opinions

Overall, Shadows Rising is a good book. The beginning was slow, but once the story picked up steam I was hooked.

I’m pleased we got to see Alleria and Turalyon together. Ever since Alleria had begun using the powers of the void I’d wondered what their marriage was like now. Their relationship is dynamic, beautiful but complicated, and it’s a mix of light and darkness amidst a sea of chaos.

Another character I was excited to see more was Zekhan. The troll became a fan favorite during BFA. We’re able to see him still processing his grief over Saurfang’s death. It was also nice to see the Horde place so much faith in the young troll. Saurfang would’ve been proud to see him doing what’s right.

Gaining more insight into Talanji and her feelings were important. She’s not my favorite character, but Shadows Rising gave the reader a chance to identify with her. Most of the book she came off as angry and difficult. Neither of those things was appealing to me, but understandably Talanji was still grieving her father’s death. So her actions always stemmed from pain.

World of Warcraft also gained it’s first LGBTQ couple. Master Mathias Shaw and Flynn Fairwind are now an item. The two men had easy chemistry. Their bond was made stronger due to their voyage at sea where they shared stories of their past.

Shaw is a hardened assassin with years of experience under his belt, and Fairwind is a former pirate who’s turned away from his swashbuckling days. They’re a unique pairing, but one which World of Warcraft can shine more of a light on in future content.

My favorite moment in the story was when Anduin disguised himself as a peasant and visited the Goldshire Inn. Usually, Anduin is so mature and reserved. So seeing Anduin sneaking out, drinking, hanging with other young men, and flirting with a barmaid was interesting. We hardly see Anduin allowed to act his age, and Shadows Rising displayed that Anduin misses being able to do that too.

He let himself sink into the delirious joy of anonymity. When the barmaid stayed a little and flirted, asking his name, he winked, still swathed in the hood, and said, “Jerek. And what do I call you?”

As a standalone novel, the book conveys enough rising tension to keep you entertained. As a bridge between BFA and Shadowlands, the novel does a fantastic job of connecting the two expansions. We’re also able to see how much of a threat the Jailer has become.

The book mentions how the spirit realm doesn’t feel right. Bwonsamdi tells Talanji about how he’s been rescuing trolls before they fall into the Maw.

By the novel’s end, it was clear that our next move is to follow Sylvanas into the Shadowlands and to put a stop to her and the Jailer’s plans.

Shadows Rising kept me glued to my seat. Honestly, if you’re planning to play Shadowlands then you might want to read this book. Important background information on the current conflict is provided. Shadows Rising would also make a great gift for any WoW fan that loves the story.

What’s The Difference Between A Gaming Laptop And Gaming PC?

When choosing the best computer for WoW there are things to think about. A gaming laptop is more portable, but a gaming PC offers more options. A gaming PC can upgrade it’s graphics card. Also, a gaming PC can choose a fantastic monitor to reduce ghosting and blur.

So you can’t choose between the three different monitor types on a laptop. A gaming laptop doesn’t have interchangeable parts. Gaming laptops used to have less performance than gaming PCs. That is no longer the case as many computer companies have stepped up their game. Most gaming laptops are sporting the same graphics cards and refresh rates as a PC. Unless you choose a budget laptop for WoW.

Gaming PCs do have a slight edge in terms of cooling. But, gaming laptops not only have improved internal cooling, but getting a cooling desk can work wonders. A gaming PC offers more ports to connect devices. So connecting multiple monitors is possible with a gaming PC, but a gaming laptop is limited.

Cheap gaming laptops may give you trouble though. It’s only been in recent years that gaming laptops are matching the firepower of gaming PCs. Normally if you’re getting a budget gaming laptop quality is being sacrificed.

Gaming laptops have all of their internal components installed in the motherboard. So a cheap gaming laptop can’t upgrade it’s parts. Honestly, no laptop has the ability to upgrade, but at least a higher quality machine will be future proof for a few years.

Now getting a cheap gaming PC also has drawbacks. A higher end gaming laptop would technically perform better than a low grade PC. But, a desktop computer will always be more powerful. There’s only so much power that can be packed in a portable package. Usually gaming laptops are an option for people who are always on the move. If you’re a college student, or if you travel often then the best gaming laptop would fit your life style.

Best Computer For WoW

The best computer for WoW is a personal preference. Portability was my main concern when I chose my laptop. Choosing a cheap gaming laptop for WoW might be your most important choice. Gaming laptops may have a bad reputation, but things are changing.

A budget laptop for WoW might be what you need for a busy lifestyle. Graphics cards will determine whether a cheap gaming laptop for WoW is worth it or not. If you can’t even see the blades of grass moving, then you might want to choose a better graphics card.

I’ve had my fair share of budget laptops for WoW. When I was in college I was playing WoW on a potato. Sometimes the best computer for WoW is whatever suits your unique needs.

Small World Of Warcraft, Product Overview

Small World of Warcraft was created as a collaboration between Blizzard Entertainment and Days of Wonder. During the game, players control legendary races and artifacts. You can choose special powers and mix them with races, such as Portal Mage Pandarens or Herbalist Goblins

Your goal is to gain the upper hand by leading your chosen race. Small World of Warcraft can have 2 – 5 players. During this Small World of Warcraft review we had three players. Conquering the dangerous lands of Azeroth is no easy task.

Players will occupy legendary terrains and seek control of powerful artifacts. However, all empires must eventually fall, so players will need to be ready to put an overextended race into a state of “decline” and lead a new one to rule Azeroth.

Unboxing Small World Of Warcraft

Packaging for the Small World of Warcraft board game was high quality. Opening the box revealed the instruction manual. Large cards for each player also contained rules for the game.

There were also six double sided board pieces. Each piece represented an island. Inside of the box was one die, and one crown. Sheets of game pieces filled the box. These needed to be punched out and placed within the black box provided with the game.

Small World of Warcraft requires set up to play the game. Honestly, this was my least favorite part of the experience. Set up took my brothers and I over an hour. We made sure to take a quick break before we started playing the game.

Game Play And Set Up

Setting up Small World of Warcraft took time. Once we had all of the game pieces situated within the box then we focused on the instruction manual. None of us had played a Small World game before. So we were excited to dive in and conquer new lands.

The instruction manual wasn’t easy to decipher. Small World of Warcraft can be played in about 40 – 60 minutes, but we were stuck on the instructions for a while.

Obviously the game takes a lot of strategic game play to be victorious. The board game is based off of WoW and we know that our favorite MMO can have a steep learning curve for newbies.

But, I was hoping that a board game would be easier to pick up. Usually when I play a board game with family or friends it’s because I’m hanging out.

Also, My brothers and I had considered making food from the World of Warcraft cookbook, but I’m glad we didn’t because the board game took up so much of our time. We’re hoping to have a World of Warcraft themed hang out day soon.

Victorious Conquests And Crushing Defeats

Pros:
1. Small World fans will love the game
2. Small World of Warcraft is WoW themed
3. The game takes strategy and will test your skill
Cons:
1. Set up of the game took over an hour
2. Instructions need to be clearer
3. The game is creative, but the details are overwhelming
During our Small World of Warcraft review, My brothers and I played for about an hour. Most of the time was spent reading the instructions. We each pulled a race banner and profession from the stack.

I began with Portal Mage Blood Elfs, and set my sights on the largest island.

My blood elven soldiers entered the continent from the anchor point, and I worked my way to the first magic station. I placed a wisp wall to claim the area.

After I made my move, one of my brothers pulled his cards and he got Naga. So he worked on conquering the waterways. Our other brother pulled the card for the Orcs. We each took several more turns, but we realized that the game was going no where. Sadly, we didn’t finish our game because of frustration.

We were confused on several key things:

How do turns work? (the directions didn’t make it clear on when our turns ended)

How many troops could we have on the board at a time?

What causes a race to go into decline?

Is The Game Worth It?

This Small World of Warcraft review was my first time trying a Small World game. I’m used to playing Candyland and Chutes and Ladders. So I’ll admit some of our confusion came from lack of experience with the game series. But, I’m disappointed that the directions weren’t clearer.

Each race had it’s own rules. That’s great in hindsight, but for a bunch of newbies we were overwhelmed. Also, there were three of us playing. So per the instruction manuals suggestions we should’ve had one Alliance, one Horde, and one Neutral player. But, when we chose the race banners that’s not what we ended up with.

Small World of Warcraft is worth it for those who enjoy board games. Especially if you’re a fan of the Small World brand. If you enjoy strategy games and love to play them with friends then Small World of Warcraft will be fun for you.

Also, Small World of Warcraft is a fantastic gift for any WoW fan. The artwork on the box alone got me hyped to try it. So if you’re looking for a Warcraft gift idea then consider the game. Small World of Warcraft wasn’t for me, but don’t count the game out especially because every World of Warcraft fan likes different things.

Small World of Warcraft will be released on September 4, 2020 on the Blizzard Gear Store. The game will be available on Amazon by September 25, 2020. Both retailers are currently accepting pre-orders for the board game.

World Of Warcraft Shadowlands Afterlives Gamescom 2020

World of Warcraft Shadowlands Afterlives premiered at Gamescom 2020. The new four-part animated series will showcase each of the new Shadowlands zones and covenants. The animated series will delve deeper into iconic characters from WoW who’ve already died. We’ve also discovered that World of Warcraft Shadowlands will be released on October 26, 2020.

The Afterlives animated series is similar to Warbringers and Harbringers. Blizzard Entertainment has used animated series before to release new story material and create excitement for new expansions. The unique art style and voice over always compliments the story perfectly.

So, let’s discuss the first-part of the Afterlives series.

How We Got Here

The animation starts when Uther the Lightbringer falls to the ground as the Death Knight, Arthas Menethil, delivers a fatal blow. We’re reliving the heartbreaking moment from Warcraft III when Uther’s student, Arthas, murdered him on the field of battle.

The complex events which led to that moment are both gut-wrenching and fascinating. Prince Arthas Menethil was one of Uther’s best students. Uther had trained the prince of Lordaeron in how to be a Paladin, a holy knight.

These holy knights swear an oath to protect the world of Azeroth from the darkness. Arthas began on the correct path, and the young prince had shown promise. So, when the plague of undeath began spreading through the Kingdom of Lordaeron the prince vowed to discover where it was coming from.

How We Got Here Continued

At first, Prince Arthas Menethil was doing everything in his power to protect his kingdom. But, he ran into the Dreadlord Mal’Ganis in the city of Stratholme. The Dreadlord had plans for the young prince. Arthas realized that the plagued grain in the city had already infected it’s citizens.

Arthas wanted to purge the city. Uther disagreed with this decision and he along with Jaina Proudmoore walked away, because they refused to watch Arthas murder his own people.

After the Culling of Stratholme, Arthas chased Mal’Ganis to the frozen wastes of Northrend. On this barren waste land, he heard the call of the cursed blade Frostmourne. Arthas found the rune blade in a cave. He abandoned his friend and crew in the frozen wastes. The prince returned to Lordaeron and murdered his father King Terenas.

It wasn’t long before Arthas and Uther met in battle. The tragic blow Arthas delivers to Uther is where the Afterlives animation begins.

Afterlives: Bastion: My Thoughts

World Of Warcraft Shadowlands Afterlives: Bastion is the first part of the animated series. The six minute animation grabs your attention immediately. Uther the Lightbringer is a well-known and well-respected WoW hero. When he wakes up in Bastion it’s fascinating to see what happens to him.

Devos is the Paragon that is training Uther to become an Ascended. She realizes his soul is wounded. The Archon waves away her concerns and Devos takes matters into her own hands.

So, Devos turns Uther into an Ascended and tells him he will have his revenge on Arthas. When Arthas is finally defeated at Icecrown Citadel, she and Uther take his soul to the Maw. Uther claims that justice has finally been served.

Afterlives is only six minutes but it feels larger than it’s run time. The story is a taste of how grand the scale of Shadowlands will be. Blizzard has opened the door to tell new and compelling stories. Afterlives is sure to amaze and delve deeper into the Warcraft treasure trove of lore. I’m excited to see what comes next.
