The Small World of Warcraft board game previewed at BlizzCon® 2019 is arriving in Summer 2020 and can be pre-ordered now. Days of Wonder is a board game publisher owned by Asmodee which created the game in collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment (a division of Activision Blizzard), which is best known for its blockbuster hits including World of Warcraft, Hearthstone®, Overwatch®, the Warcraft, StarCraft®, and Diablo® franchises, and the multi-franchise Heroes of the Storm®. Small World of Warcraft mixes the Small World® game mechanics with Blizzard’s Warcraft® races.
In the Small World of Warcraft, players can choose special powers and races from the Warcraft universe, such as Portal Mage Pandarens or Herbalist Goblins. The board game takes place in Azeroth, where the races of the Horde and the Alliance clash. To achieve their goal, players will occupy legendary terrains and seek control of powerful artifacts. However, all empires must eventually fall, so players will need to be ready to put an overextended race into a state of “decline” and lead a new one to rule Azeroth.

The Creators Behind Small World of Warcraft Continued
Small World of Warcraft was created by Game Designer Philippe Keyaerts. He lives in Brussels with his wife and son. Keyaerts studied Mathematics and Computer Science at University where he earned a Master’s Degree. Although Keyaerts is a huge gamer when he’s not playing games, he’s teaching mathematics to his foreign students and he enjoys cooking.
Keyaerts said creating the game was about intimately mixing the spirit of Small World with the Warcraft universe so that both worlds reflect on each other.
Small World Underground was the game that first introduced the concept of Legendary places and artifacts. Keyaerts also introduced a game mechanism that allows traveling between distant places.
“The creation of a game always comes from the desire to play a game that doesn’t exist. I turn and kick it around in my head for some time, then I draft a first game prototype, which I play test alone by myself,” said Philippe Keyaerts, Game Designer. “Then I playtest the game with friends – I always try to give them a game prototype that works. Then, I tweak, and test, and tweak again and again until I get a great game – it is a long and difficult process.”
What The Game Entails And The Retail Price
As a standalone game, Small World of Warcraft is designed for 2 to 5 players. The game can be completed in 40 to 80 minutes. Small World of Warcraft includes 6 double-sided boards, 16 Warcraft Race banners, 182 Matching Race tokens, and 15 Murloc tokens.
The game also includes 20 Unique Special Power badges, 5 Player Summary Sheets, 12 Artifact and Legendary place markers, 10 Mountains, 9 Wisp Walls, 4 Harmony tokens, 12 Bombs, 1 Champion, 10 Forts, 2 Military Objectives, 5 Beasts, 6 Watch Towers, 110 Victory coins, 1 Custom Reinforcement die, 1 Game turn track, 1 Game turn marker, 1 rulebook, and 1 Team Variant Rules sheet.
Small World of Warcraft should be available in Summer 2020. The board game will be for sale in the United States and Europe, at the retail price of $59.99/€59.99. Small World of Warcraft will be available in the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Slovak, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
