EDIT: Most WoW Classic servers are back up.
EDIT: Twitter has suspended UkDrillas account.
Yesterday, September 7, 2019, WoW Classic Servers were down in DDoS attacks. Blizzard is under a massive attack as World of Warcraft, Overwatch and Diablo 3 servers are down. On the World of Warcraft forums, Blizzard posted a message to players letting them know what was going on. Apparently, UkDrillas the attacker has posted on Twitter that he’s taken down Overwatch servers as well. He purposely attacked Faerlina which is a popular server for many Twitch streamers. Players were so confused about what was happening that they posted on Reddit and asked what was going on.
In roughly 20-30mins.
Will attack every US PVP WoW server.

What Does This Attack Mean For You?
A DDoS attack means a network is unable to be reached. The attacker does this by sending so much traffic to a server that it becomes overwhelming. So basically it’s like an early morning traffic jam. This is different than a Denial of Service (DoS) attack which only comes from one computer. A DDoS attack is a lot harder to stop because it’s sent from multiple computers worldwide.
Blizzard is working quickly to solve the problem. It’s also impacting Diablo 3 and Overwatch. In May of last year, Calin Mateias was sentenced to a year in US prison for a DDoS attack he launched on World of Warcraft servers in 2010. He also had to pay about $30,000 to Blizzard for the damages that he caused. If UkDrillas really is doing this then they are certainly bold.
Some online services continue to be impacted by a series of DDoS attacks which are resulting in high latency and disconnections. These disruption effects have been felt by a portion of our players, impacting their gaming experience. Thank you again for your continued patience.

We are currently monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers which is affecting latency/connections to our games. #BlizzCS

All we can do for now is wait for Blizzard to solve the problem. This isn’t the first DDoS attack on WoW servers so Blizzard can fix this. Many of these hackers are probably seeking their 15 seconds of shame. We know what happens to people who screw up Blizzard servers thanks to Calin Meteias. It’s a costly mistake and hopefully, more people realize it’s not a great idea.
UkDrillas has also begun to attack Twitch servers too. So if you’re wondering why you can’t stream or why your favorite streamers are offline, then the attack is probably the reason.
